For a brown derby lace-up this is quite a rugged shoe. The sole has a deep toughened tread which enhances shock absorption and traction. Additionally, this style comes with a Rieker-Tex membrane that makes the shoe more resistant to water. The upper itself, aside from all of the aforementioned features, is made from a thick nubuck leather.

The shape of the toe is relatively rounded, and the toe-box is deep and roomy. The length is true to size, but the width offered is more than average. With all of the tough, rugged features considered, it wouldn't be unusual to expect a relatively heavy weight shoe. However, thanks to the Antistress technology, the derby is both light and flexible, as well as durable.
